Fun with friends in Frankfurt

We made it to Franfurt and met up with Dennis, Heide and their two sons Erik and Lars. It has been lots of fun speending time with such a great family. Language is no problem as they speek English to thier children. We went to a medievel castle where I got in trouble and ended up in the stockades. We then moved onto the town of RoennenBurg that had a medievel town surrounded by a wall and moat. Somewhere in RoennedBurg I lost my camera, but it was nothing a trip with a visa card could not fix.

We also took a trip to the historic downtown area where we rode on the apple wine trolley. The scenery was great and so was the apple wine!! The food at the house has been so good we have refused to eat out!!! Needless to say Lars and Erik have been keeping us very entertained. Erik is especially interested in the trash collection, complete with his own jump suit so he can help the workers and ride in the truck. Even the plastic trash truck toy has to have the recycle bins color cordnated.

WE GOT IT!!!! AutoBahn here we come.

After a sleepless/jetlaged night, we went to BMW's Welt to get the car. Yes they do take care of you!!! Very nice service and we got a tour of the building. It was supposed to modeled after tornado. Seems silly to come all this way to get inside a tornado. The building and pickup exsperiance was great. They even had a motorycylce stunt rider on a 450 dirtbike going up and down the stairs. It was fun. I inspected the car and we hit the road.

Next we headed up towords Frankfurt. This meant hitting the AutoBahn. The moment we left the welt mom told me to drive so I ended up on the A8. Poor me!! I have heard about this all my life, but was still amazed. They simply haul AS#$* on the AutoBahn. I was crusing with trafic and we were doing 100 to 120 (yes I mean miles per hour) in the fast lane with an few fast cars blowing past us (M3 or Porsches). I did not want to lay chase with a car that had less than 100 miles on it that was not mine. Dang it was fun!! We really covered some ground in a hurry.

The country side was buitifull and we ended up at a nice little hotel haus for the night.

How to do Munich on a rainy day

Last night we went over to the BMW dealer to pick out our rides till they deliver the car. Mom found a nice little socoter and I found a sweet GS. Her's was more user friendly, but mine won the Paris to Dakar rally in 1984!!!!

Today we hit the best of Munich. As we hit Marianplatz the bell tower was doing it's glockenspicel show. Next we managed to catch a church service at the largest cathedral in Marianplatz area Dom Frauenkirche. Mom was there for the service while I was happy with the insence and organ music. We wondered around several other churches till we found St. Peters church that had the jewed dead guy on display. The churches were starting to take there toll on us so we headed to the beer house for lunch.

It comes in Liters!!! We met some local folks at the Hofbrauhaus that helped us out, it was good beer!! Did I mention it comes in Liters? Next was the Residenz. This was the previous home and now museum for the all the kings of Bravara. It was simply indiscibable. Room after room of ornate carvings ond furniture. We even saw the crowns and jewels.
Needless to say we are done. Tomorow we get the car!!

We made it!!!

The Lufthansa was VERY nice, moves and multipule meals. We still arived tired, but we made it.
We got all the way to the street that our hotel was on but didn't know where to go so we stopped in the BMW dealer that happend to be across the street to ask for directions.

The first car I saw displayed was an electric mini. We made it to the hotel tired but happy. The veiw from our hotel is a quant street with a ctiroen, Husqavarna, BMW car and motor cycle deal. The only decision is which one to see first!!!

So Brian is leaning out the hotel window naming the vehicles driving by: BMW, Peugot, Mercedes, VW, Mercedies, BMW 1 series. Same thing happened on the train ride from the airport! I'm looking at quaint barns and field and Brian's naming vehicles at the intersections! It's going to be a car trip for sure! G.
